OSF Foundations organized online event on vulnerable groups in agriculture
As part of the regional project “Responding to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 to support vulnerable groups as low-wage, informal and gig workers”, a series of events at the regional level are being organized by Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA), Open Society Fund Bosnia & Herzegovina (OSF BH), Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (OSF Kosovo), Foundation Open Society-Macedonia (FOSM), and Open Society Foundation Serbia (OSFS), to help build a regional platform.
The first online event – Vulnerable groups in the agricultural sector – was held on March 17, 2021. It gathered around 40 representatives of civil society organizations from the Western Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia, who discussed how we can support vulnerable groups, in particular rural women, in building resilience not only in the COVID-19 recovery process, but also to other future shocks.
Participants in the event discussed the key challenges faced by vulnerable groups, in particular for achieving food and nutritional security and economic prosperity within an equitable system, where structural barriers are removed, and traditional gender norms and stereotypes are eliminated.
The participants also exchanged information on the national programs and measures that were adopted by their Governments to support vulnerable groups, in particular women, during the COVID-19 pandemic. They highlighted the importance of meaningful gender mainstreaming for avoiding gender-blind policies.
